The company Omega Flex has filed a motion to dismiss their lawsuit against the City of Lubbock related to the restricted use of CSST piping. CSST is a form of flexible pipe commonly used for natural gas lines.

In 2012, 31-year-old Brennen Teel was killed when lightning struck the roof of his house. At the time, the Lubbock Fire Department determined that the lightning may have damaged CSST piping in the home, which then ruptured and caused an explosion.

In 2017, the Lubbock City Council voted unanimously to ban certain CSST piping, such as "yellow jacket" piping, from being used in local construction. Omega Flex’s lawsuit claimed the ban was ". . . not based on an industry standard and not reviewed by industry experts."

However, in the summer of 2019, Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope told news outlets that the ban would be lifted due to a recent change in state law. Omega Flex says it dismissed its lawsuit on Tuesday, Sept. 17th.
