West TN counties receive infrastructure grant

HAYWOOD, Tenn. — The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration held an in-person briefing this morning to announce historic grant investments in Tennessee’s energy infrastructure.

Hosted at Brownsville Utilities Department, the briefing announced funding for the Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization Grant program.

The grants will fix old, leaky, natural gas pipes, improve public safety and reduce energy costs.

Established by President Biden’s historic bipartisan infrastructure law, the program is providing more than $392-million dollars in total awards this year.

“Any time that we can help our operators succeed, that’s really what our goal is,” said Director of Policies and Programs for PHMSA, Scott Bohnhoff.

Recipients of funding in West Tennessee include Brownsville Energy Authority and the Paris-Henry County Public Utility District.
