The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday said it arrested a three-man gang for attempting to kidnap one Adamu Hassan of Pandogari in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, Yahaya Mohammed, 25; Murtala Isa, 30; and Abdullahi Adamu, 32, all from Pandogari, were said to have confessed to the crime during investigation.

Northern City News gathered that the suspects, who are cattle breeders, allegedly took to crime in order to make fast money.

Checks revealed that the victim was a boss to the alleged leader of the gang, Mohammed, whom he served for many years until he was arrested by the operatives of the NSCDC.

Mohammed told our correspondent that the gang’s intended victim, Hassan, was his boss, who gave him 356 animals made up of cows and sheep to rear so that poverty would be a thing of the past in his life.

Mohammed stated, “Honestly, Allah will punish my generation for planning evil against the man who put food on my table; the man, who brightened up my future in all ramifications. I am totally ashamed to appear before him.

“I am an ungrateful servant; upon all he did for me, it is unfortunate that I am repaying him this way. He even supported me with another 12 cows when cattle rustlers took away the 356 animals he gave to me; I feel like taking my life.”

He also said that he provided the phone number of the victim to other members of his gang so that they could call him and ask him to pay N10m or risk being kidnapped.

“The victim, after several negotiations with my accomplices, was asked to pay N4m, which he must drop at an agreed collection point at the Rafi Sanyi area,” Mohammed added.

When asked whether his wife and children were aware that he was in the custody of the NSCDC, Mohammed said, “I know they will disown me for being a part of this heinous action against my boss, who virtually supplied my daily bread; by now, my wife and children must have left my house.”

The state Commandant, NSCDC, Philip Ayuba, confirmed that the suspects had confessed to the planned kidnap and other criminal acts perpetrated in Pandogari and other neighbouring towns in the state.

Ayuba said the operatives acted promptly based on information received and arrested the suspects through intelligence and surveillance.

He added that four SIM cards of various networks and one mobile telephone were recovered from the suspects, noting that the investigation was still ongoing.
